Holiday Mini Sessions are one of our favorite ways to introduce Twig and Turtle Photography to people who either don’t know about us or aren’t sure they want to commit to our full photo experience.  Here are some things to think about when choosing between the two.

When choosing the best photography experience for your family there are several things to consider.   First, what do you want to get out of your experience? Are you looking to create a complete photography story that will hang in your home forever, or do you want a few good shots for holiday cards?   Are your children shy or outgoing? Do you want a completely personalized experience, or are you ok, sharing with others?

Each type of shoot has its merits.  Yes, the holiday mini sessions are cheaper and perhaps you aren’t ready to invest in the full experience,  however less time (around 25 minutes) with subjects means less photos over all. We schedule several mini’s over 2 days so that means your are locked in to a specific day and location.

Full photography experience costs more.  A lot more. But you also get a lot more.  You get the opportunity to do wardrobe changes, your shy children have the opportunity to warm up to the photographer and the session location and time are chosen specifically for you.

So how the heck to I decide?
Consider booking a mini-session if…
-Your weekends are fairly open and are able to schedule one of the set dates.  Mini-sessions will only be booked on two days in spring and two days in fall.
-You have an infant who tires easily or needs to nap often.  Mini-sessions are only 25 minutes long.
-You only need a few images.  Mini-sessions include 3 digital files that you choose from your 10-12 proofs.
-You have a small family of under 4 people.  We can not accommodate more than 4 during mini shoots, we simply don’t have the time.
-You don’t mind receiving your images electronically.  While full sessions include products such as USB’s in keepsake boxes, mini’s digital files are downloaded via WeTransfer. (You may purchase the extras if you like).  You receive a print release so that you can have prints made on your own.
-You don’t mind dealing with weather.  When we plan our holiday mini sessions we have no idea what the weather will be.   But rain or shine we will be shooting.   We try and plan locations with some cover just in case, but Copenhagen being Copenhagen, the possibility of rain is real.  We think rubber boots and umbrellas make really cute photos though!

Our full sessions are a customized experience designed specifically to your families needs. Your experience begins with a pre-consultation where we will talk about location, wardrobe, time of day, and who we will be photographing. You will then receive a welcome packet that contains tips on what to wear and how to make the most out of your session.  About two weeks after your session we will come to your home for what we like to call the “Premiere Night.” We will eat something yummy, drink some tea, and watch a custom slideshow of the images created just for your family. Premiere Nights are fun because we understand that planning, designing, and finding the perfect mix can be intimidating, but have no fear as we become your personal in-home portrait and wall art designer. To find out more about our full photography experience, you can visit our investment page.

Consider booking a full session if…
-You are busy and need to fit your session into your own schedule.  We schedule full sessions any day of the week, morning or afternoon. We do not schedule midday in the summer because the lighting is not favorable.   I will help you pick the right time for the best lighting depending on the time of year.
-You want to explore a truly unique location.
-You have children who are shy or need time to warm up to a camera.  Mini-sessions don’t always work well for very shy children because by the time they become comfortable, the session is over.
-You want to use multiple outfits.
-You want a full collection of images to print to decorate your home, make holiday cards, give as gifts, make an album, etc.  With a full session, you will receive 25 images to choose from instead of three. You will also receive special pricing on the Premiere night.

These are some images from one families mini-shoot this past weekend in Kastellet, an old army fort in the middle of Copenhagen.
