Cassie and Brad’s engagement session in Hazen, Nevada

What a fun day of photography!  When Brad and Cassie told me they lived in Fernley I started thinking where around there would be a great place to do an engagement shoot.  I knew about Hazen only as a place I have driven by at highway speeds on the way to Fallon and other points east.  But even at 65 mph I could see the visual appeal of the tiny “town.”   Here is a history lesson for you.  Hazen was established in 1903 as a train stop and to house laborers working on the Newlands Irrigation Project.  It was a rough place and had saloons, brothels, a post office and a school.

While we were taking photos a resident, yes there are a few people who still live in Hazen, came out and told us the red barn building was  the old Community Center and it even had a one room jail in it.   So like the sign says, “It’s happening in Hazen.”
